What Does The Bible Say about Emotions?

What Does The Bible Say about Emotions? Tonight we will be talking about this.  I want to start out a little differently before going into scriptures. I want to start out with some song lyrics and then a quote.

The first song I would like to start out with is a song called Difference Maker and the lyrics say this: Yeah, isn't it amazing how a man can find himself alone

Call into the darkness for an answer that's he's never known

Yeah, isn't it amazing how God can take a broken man

Yeah, let him find a fortune, let him ruin it with his own two hands

And he climbs on up the hill on the rock on which he stands

He looks back at the crowd

He looks down at his hands and he says

I am a difference maker

Oh, I am the difference maker

Oh, I am the only one who speaks to him

And I am the friendliest of friends of God

Yeah, isn't it amazing how a man can find himself alone

Call into the darkness for an answer that's he's never known

Yeah, isn't it amazing how a God can take a broken man

Yeah, let him find a fortune, let him ruin it with his own two hands

He walks on up the hill to the rock on which he stands

He looks back at the crowd

He looks down at his hands and he says

I am a difference maker

The second song I want to share is called The Rock Won't Move and the lyrics say this: When the ground beneath my feet gives way

And I hear the sound of crashing waves

All my world is washing out to sea

I'm hidden safe in the God who never moves

Holding fast to the promise of the truth

That You are holding tighter still to me

Oh, the Rock won't move and His word is strong

The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone

The Rock won't move and His word is strong

The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone

The Rock of our Salvation

My hope is in the promise of Your blood

My support within the raging flood

Even in the tempest, I can sing

I'm hidden safe in the God who never moves

Holding fast to the promise of Your truth

That You are holding tighter still to me

The Rock won't move and His word is strong

The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone

The Rock won't move and His word is strong

The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone

The Rock of our Salvation

The last song I want to share is called Christ Be All Around Me and the lyrics say this: As I rise, strength of God

Go before, lift me up

As I wake, eyes of God

Look upon, be my sight

As I wait, heart of God

Satisfy and sustain

As I hear, voice of God

Lead me on, be my guide

Be my guide

Above and below me

Before and behind me

In every eye that sees me

Christ be all around me

Above and below me

Before and behind me

In every eye that sees me

Christ be all around me

And as I go, Hand of God

My defense, by my side

And as I rest, breath of God

Fall upon, bring me peace

Bring me peace

Above and below me

Before and behind me

In every eye that sees me

Christ be all around me

The quote I would now like to share with all of you says: Though our feelings come and go, God's Love for us does not.

I want us to now take a look at some scriptures. The scriptures we are going to take a look at now are Philippians 4:6-7, Romans 12 verse 2, Ecclesiastes 3:4, Joshua 1 verse 9, 2 Timothy 1 verse 7, Romans 8 verse 28, Romans 12 verse 9, Proverbs 15 verse 13, John 11 verse 35, Phillipians 4 verse 13, Ephesians 6 verse 13, Proverbs 16 verse 32, 1 Peter 5 verse 7, 2 Corinthians 5 verse 7, Galatians 6 verse 9, James 1 verse 3, and James 1:19-20.

In the scriptures and what was shared earlier, we see how God's Love doesn't change for us because God is Love. We see how God's Mercy never changes, and we see that we don't give up because God encourages us to keep going. This makes me think of a song by Land of Color called Warriors where one of the lines say: Even when we fall the battle's not our own, we will find the strength when we let go to be your Warriors. When I think of that line right there, it makes me know and realize that even when we feel sad, or down about ourselves because that is what the enemy wants to feel a lot of the time, and not be happy. It makes me know and realize that it's okay to feel emotions like that, but the great thing is knowing that God turns those bad days into good days in order for us to be happy again and realize our potential and our happiness in life.

God provides our happiness and He's given us emotions to feel, but He's given us so much more and that is life. He's given us life to be who we are called to be according to His Purpose. We read about that tonight in the scriptures from the book of Romans, and If felt it was important to share again with all of you tonight. I want to share two quotes, before getting to what I want to end on tonight and before I have all of you share prayer requests and comments. Here are the quotes, I would like to share.

Don't hide your scars. Wear them as proof that God heals.

Sometimes emotions get the best of us. Take a deep breath, and redirect your thoughts. Pray that God will lead you to the solution.

This is what I would like to end with tonight before you all share your comments and prayer requests. How have you seen God work in your life to help someone who might be feeling lonely, and how did you help them to feel not alone and let them know that God is with them?
