Tonight I want to talk about what it means to show Mercy and Compassion towards one another. I want to look at scriptures that talk about Mercy and Compassion. The scriptures we are going to look at are Lamentations 3 verse 22-23, Micah 6 verse 8, Psalm 23 verse 6, 1 Peter 1 verse 3, Colossians 3 verse 12, 2 Peter 3 verse 9, Psalm 25 verse 6, Psalm 145 verse 9, Hosea 12 verse 6, and Psalm 86 verse 15.
The next scriptures we are going to looking at are Ephesians 4 verse 32, 1 Peter 3 verse 8, Matthew 9 verse 36, Romans 12 verse 15, Romans 8 verse 1, 1 Peter 4 verse 10, Psalm 116 verse 5.James 5 verse 11, Matthew 5 verse 9, Isaiah 30 verse 18, Psalm 78 verse 38, Luke 7 verse 13, and John 16 verse 33.
When I think of these scriptures I think of a song that talks about these two words and the song is called Mighty To Save. The lyrics of the song say this: Everyone needs Compassion, a love that's never failing let Mercy fall on me, everyone needs forgiveness the kindness of a Savior the Hope of nations. Savior He can move the mountains my God is mighty to save He is mighty to save. Forever, Author of Salvation He rose and conquered the grave, Jesus conquered the grave. This song reminds me on how God sent His Son to die on the cross for our sins, so that we could be forgiven. It reminds me on how Jesus showed Mercy and Compassion to those around Him and to His Disciples. God gives us Mercy and Compassion everyday and He helps to remind us that we can show Compassion towards one another by showing acts of kindness and love. We can show Mercy towards others by being a friend, by showing gentleness and patience. We can give them mercy by letting them know that we are here for them and that God's mercies are new every morning. God is our Refuge and Strength and He is Merciful and Just. God has given us a Heart of Compassion, and has given us Mercy and Forgiveness to help us with knowing how God is a Just God and will show Justice and help us to know how He is a Faithful, Loving, and Merciful God. I want to share another song with you called Mercy Is A Song by Matthew West. The lyrics of the song say this: Mercy is A Song, Singing to my Heart, telling me it's okay come just as you are. I never heard a melody like the one that's singing over me and I just wanna sing along cause Mercy is a song. When we think of these lyrics we think of how God can help us through any storm or trial that we face in life. God is always there no matter what and we our His children who need to show Compassion and Mercy towards others who may need it and want to come and know Christ. God has given us a way to show Mercy and Compassion to others who need it most.
Mercy is God's Favour that holds back from us what we deserve. Grace is God's favour that gives us what we do not deserve.
Mercy is what moves us towards God, while justice makes us tremble in his sight.
Test after Test I have failed but your infinite mercy still remains.
Here are the four things that I would like to end on tonight before we close in prayer and I share my prayer requests with all of you.
Use your Voice for Kindness, Your Ears for Compassion, Your Hands for Charity, Your Mind for Truth, and Your Heart for Love.
The Purpose of Human Life is to Serve and to show Compassion and the Will to help others.
Allow God to continually soften your Heart so that it beats for what His Heart Beats for- People.
Grace is when you get the good things you don't deserve. Mercy is when you're spared from the bad things you do deserve. God is generous with both.
