What The Bible Says About Temptation

We are going to be talking on what the Bible tells us about Temptation. That's the main question I want all of you to just think of as a reflection question about how we overcome it, and how can that be possible to overcome? I this past Sunday night had a little bit of a God moment happen. I was cohosting the Sunday night music hangout for Christian Media Spotlight which is Joseph Neal's ministry. Now, see I wasn't really knowing what song would play at the end from an artist named Aaron Vaughn Graham who did a Matt Maher cover of Lord I Need You, now here is the significance of this, while I didn't know that would be the song, I wrote some things down for study topic names and one of them happened to be the word Temptation and then later in the car I looked up one of the lyrics to a song that I knew had the word temptation, and what came up in that search? Well, Lord I Need You by Matt Maher. So now I want to start off with that song before we go into the scriptures and go a little deeper into all of this tonight. Lord I come, I confess, Bowing here, I find my rest, Without You, I fall apart, You're the one that guides my heart, Lord, I need You, oh, I need You, Every hour, I need You, My one defense, my righteousness, Oh God, how I need You, Where sin runs deep, Your grace is more, Where grace is found is where You are And where You are, Lord, I am free, Holiness is Christ in me, Lord, I need You, oh, I need You, Every hour, I need You, My one defense, my righteousness, Oh God, how I need You, So teach my song to rise to You, When temptation comes my way And when I cannot stand, I'll fall on You, Jesus, You're my hope and stay, Lord, I need You, oh, I need You, Every hour, I need You, My one defense, my righteousness, Oh God, how I need You, You're my one defense, my righteousness, Oh God, how I need You, My one defense, my righteousness, Oh God, how I need You. 1 Corinthians 10 verse 13, James 4 verse 7, Psalm 119 verse 11, Galatians 5 verse 16, Hebrews 2 verse 18, Matthew 6 verse 13, James 1 verse 12, Luke 22 verse 40, James 1 verse 13, Matthew 26 verse 41. In the scriptures we see how God shows us that it can be hard to not fall into temptation, but what we also need to remember is that we can overcome temptation through the blood of the lamb of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and thank Him for how He leads not into temptation but delivers from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory of God, forever amen. See that is part of the Lord's Prayer, it's part of what we need to remember as we are getting to the point of how we see that it's easy to be tempted by what the enemy tries to steal, kill, and destroy our joy and believe what the enemy may try and tempt us with to turn away from what God wants. Although, God wants us to know that we are wonderfully made, and whatever temptations or temptation comes our way or in our direction for any reason, we need to be ready in any way or in any step that we take and know that God is our refuge and our strength, and that we will overcome temptation in prayer, we will overcome temptation by having God help us through our own battles, struggles, and trials we all face. Temptations in the life of faith are not accidents; each temptation is part of a plan, a step in the progress of faith. Christ has broken the chains of Death, Sin, Temptation, And everything else! Therefore you can overcome all because Christ has! Don't think of Satan as a harmless cartoon character with a red pitchfork. He is very clever and powerful, and his unchanging purpose is to defeat God's plans at every turn- including His plans for your life. Temptation is everywhere But So Is God! What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer. As we look at everything we talked about and what we learned about, let us take all of this and apply it to our week, and apply it as we begin to help someone by praying with them and praying with them for God to help them in the way that they need help, when we can't always help them ourselves. You see no matter what we go through, God is helping us daily to see that while we may be tempted in a lot of things in a lot of ways, one thing we have to keep us strong in our Faith from those temptations is God. When we have God then we can see how we can share the love of God with reassurance in our Heart and then those who may not believe, well they can see that God is the one and true God who gives us life. We know that God can do the impossible because He makes all things possible in every single way as well. So let us prepare our hearts this week and let us help one another by being a light to those needing prayer. Kindness may come a long way, but even if temptation comes our way we can rest assure that God is going to give us the confidence, the strength, and the endurance of what we need in order to grow in our Faith. So let this be a reminder to all of us this week as we need to keep trusting in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us never walk away or turn away from God, no matter how much temptation comes in our direction. I pray and I hope that this will encourage someone in their own walk to know that God has never left you. God has never left any of us, and rest assured He never will because we are His Beloved Children. Father, let Your Kingdom come (hey, oh) Father, let Your will be done, On Earth as in Heaven, Right here in my heart, Father, let Your Kingdom come, Father, let Your will be done, On Earth as in Heaven, Right here in my heart, Give us this day our daily bread, Forgive us, forgive us, As we forgive the ones who sinned against us, forgive them, And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one, Let Your kingdom come, Father, let Your Kingdom come (holy, holy), Father, let Your will be done, On Earth as in Heaven (let it be done), Right here in my heart. Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Come and let Your glory, Come and let Your glory fall. Our Father, who art in Heaven, The rocks cry out Your fame, Come and let Your glory, Come and let Your glory fall. I will sing, sing a new song, I will sing, sing a new song, I will sing, sing a new song to the Lord, Let your kingdom come, Let your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven, Every heart proclaim, The mercy of Your name, On earth as it is in heaven. God give us new every morning, Mercy his daily bread, In the name of Jesus, In the name of Jesus we pray, And lead us, not to temptation, But deliver us with Your hand, In the name of Jesus, In the name of Jesus we pray, Father we pray, I will sing, sing a new song, I will sing, sing a new song, I will sing, sing a new song to the Lord, Let your kingdom come, Let your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven, Every heart proclaim, The mercy of Your name, On earth as it is in heaven. I wanted to share these two Matt Maher songs called As It Is In Heaven and The Lord's Prayer (It's Yours) because these two songs also fit what we've talked about tonight, but I also wanted to share these two because earlier today during a phone call Bible Study I sometimes take part in, I kept hearing different things that were great and then I heard things that was more confirmation for me that I needed to do this study tonight because the person doing the study today talked about Temptation, talked about music which I read in a devotional right before I joined, and then one of the main scriptures that was read tonight was Matthew 6 verse 5-13, and then I looked back at my study and noticed I had Matthew 6 verse 13, and I thanked God while I was on mute earlier today, for giving me more confirmation that I needed to do this study because you just may not know when God shows up unexpectedly and reveals the things that He wants for you, and so today all of that was timely for tonight.
